 Ronald C. Herman, Ph.D.
Head of Research and Development
Dr. Ronald C. Herman serves as head of research and development at Alydar
Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Herman brings more than 25 years of experience with industrial and academic research and consulting to Alydar. Dr. Herman previously was the Director of Molecular Biology at Pherin Pharmaceuticals where he cloned human pheromone receptors. His background also includes research in virology, neurobiology, and cancer.
From 1997 to 1998, Dr. Herman was the Director of Molecular Pharmacology at Calydon, Inc. where he
worked on therapies for prostate cancer. As Principal Scientist at Syntex, Inc. from 1986 to 1995, Dr. Herman led research teams that identified novel therapeutic targets and developed high throughput drug screening assays for the virology and neurobiology programs. From 1980 to 1986, Dr. Herman was a
Research Scientist at the New York State Department of Health where he conducted NIH-sponsored independent research in molecular virology. Dr. Herman was a Senior Staff Fellow in molecular virology at the National Institutes of Health from 1977 to 1980 and an NIH Post-Doctoral Fellow in cell biology at MIT from 1974 to 1977.
Dr. Herman received a B.A. in chemistry at Queens College, City University of New York, with support from a New York State Regents Scholarship, and M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in biochemistry from Columbia University with support from a Columbia University Faculty Fellowship. He is the author of 44 publications and patent applications.
