SLIL Biomedical Corporation was founded as S’LIL Pharmaceuticals, in Madison Wisconsin in 1996. The Company’s name, "S’LIL", was derived from the Hebrew word for ‘helix’ - a reference to the helical structure of DNA and RNA, which are primary sites of action for the Company’s important polyamine drugs in treating cancer. This heritage also inspired our current logo.

The Company recognized the synergy between its work on polyamines and the work of Drs. Michael McGrath and Brian Herndier at Sequential Medical Sciences in California, and the two companies merged in 1998 to create SLIL Biomedical Corporation. While S’LIL Pharmaceuticals had made advances in the development of novel therapeutic compounds using its polyamine technologies, the combination with Sequential Medical Sciences gave the Company some valuable new directions for drug design and development in the cancer field and beyond. It also added value in terms of an exclusive license to the Sequential Pathogenesis Model patents and the opportunity to develop and license diagnostic and other tools employing this model.

SLIL's Drug Discovery Group, focused on medicinal chemistry and pre-clinical study of polyamine analog compounds, is located in Madison, Wisconsin. The Company headquarters and its Research and Development Group, focused on the Sequential Pathogenesis disease model, is located in Menlo Park, California. In total, the Company directly employs 14 individuals, including 11 scientists at the Ph.D. or MD level.
