FORMER FDA COMMISSIONER, DR. JERE GOYAN ELECTED TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF SLIL BIOMEDICAL

MADISON, Wisconsin - July 31, 2000--SLIL Biomedical Corp. announced the addition of Jere E. Goyan, Ph.D., to its Board of Directors.

Dr. Goyan served as Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration from 1979 until 1981. He is currently President of Goyan and Hart Associates and Chairman of the Board of Directors of SciClone Pharmaceuticals. From 1967 through 1992, Dr. Goyan was Dean of the School of Pharmacy at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Goyan was President and Chief Operating Officer of Alteon, Inc. from 1993 though 1998. Dr. Goyan currently serves as on the Board of Directors of Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals Corporation, Emisphere Technologies and PenWest Pharmaceuticals.

Dr. Goyan served as President of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and of the American Associations of Pharmaceutical Scientists. He was the first pharmacist elected to the Institute of Medicine and has received numerous awards, including the Remington medal in 1992. Dr. Goyan holds a doctorate in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley and a bachelor of science degree from the School of Pharmacy, University of California, San Francisco.
