Benjamin J. Frydman, Ph.D.
Dr. Frydman is a co-founder and Vice President of SLIL. Dr. Frydman served for many years as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Organic Chemistry at the University of Buenos Aires, during which time he was able to obtain continuous NIH funding for 25 years. For five years he was the Director of CONICET, the Argentine National Science Research Council. Until recently, he was a faculty member of both the School of Pharmacy and the Medical School at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Frydman is one of the founding members of the Company and is an expert organic chemist. Along with his collaborators, he first-authored several patents that are the focus of SLIL, and his research has resulted in more than 140 original publications. Dr. Frydman has served as the chemical synthesis consultant for the former Squibb and Sons (now Bristol-Myers Squibb), where he was involved in the development of captopril, a hypotensive drug. Dr. Frydman earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Buenos Aires, after which he completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley. He was a Fulbright Fellow at the Pritzker Medical School of the University of Chicago, and also a Visiting Professor at both the Weizmann Institute of Sciences and the Hebrew University in Israel.
